Grabbed the new Halo 2 maps as soon as I got home last night. Well, I got the free ones and then I almost threw my cell phone
through the TV because I discovered that the credit card I'd used to setup my Xbox Live account was old and I didn't know the
number anymore. Which meant that I couldn't put in the current card and then download the other maps. I had to go through
a bunch of archive emails and found an old Ebay invoice that had the last 4 digits. What a pain in the butt. Oh, if you
want to see Red Vs. Blue's HILARIOUS take on the new maps, go here. God, I love them.
The new maps are pretty cool. Containment is my favorite. It's huge. There are bombs on the ground. There's lots of caves to
explore. The sirens that go off when you drop a gate are really cool. The whole thing rocks. Plus, there's snow. And I like
snowy maps. Warlock sucks. Sanctuary is pretty neat. Could be even better with vehicles. Turf is the underdog of the new 4
maps. I LOVE this one. It's tight quarters and the action is fierce. We did a great 3 on 3 team slayer match that was neck and
neck until the very end when some chump came in and got killed by the other team which gave them the point they needed to win.
GRRRRRRRRRRRR. The warthog on that map is a pure bullet magnet, although DJ found a VERY good use for it that I won't reveal
here. I laughed for a while when he did it. I may have even told him that I loved him.
We played a 4 on 4 slayer match in Containment that just turned into pure nonsense. DJ was having a bitch of a time keeping
the warthog on 4 wheels because of the uneven terrain. It ended up being 3 on our team vs. 2 on the other team and they still
won. but, we were just having fun and not being very competitive. It was almost cinematic when the three of us would pile into
the hog, only to be target locked by a rocket and then we go a flyin'. Good times.
Ahh, I found pictures that we took at the Empty Bottle on Friday night.
Here you go. Ah, and one of
me and Lisa, obviously not candidates for the a Newcastle ad campaign.

Friday was exhausting. 2 hours of sleep is like not having any at all. DJ and I went up to some swanky dim sum place in
Evanston and then watched Sin City. People who talk in movie theaters need to be taken out back and shot in the stomach.
But beyond the few jerks in the crowd, he loved the movie. We didn't get a chance to talk about it afterwards because I had to
rush down to The Empty Bottle to see Ulrich and M83. I got there right as
Ulrich took the stage. His live set was fucking
ACE. Tobias, Brock, John, Hope and I all got up front and bobbed our heads to his music. The guy wore and AIRIEL T-SHIRT! How
cool is that? I even witnessed a girl back at the merch table asking for "airiel cd's" because that's who she though he was.
Hilarious. We hung out for a while, but we were all exhausted from the night before. So, no party for us.
Saturday was very relaxed. I needed sleep and I got it. Didn't do much beyond one load of laundry and another round of
Doom3. I left around 8:00 to go to Adobo Grill for
Lisa's birthday dinner. Well, unbeknownst to me, there are TWO of these god
damned restaurants. So here I am, over at the one on Wells and North, drinking a beer at the upstairs bar, sending random
text messages, when Lisa calls me at 8:45 asking where I am. "What do you mean, there are TWO of them? It didn't say anything
about that in the email!" So, I hauled ass and got there close to 9:00. Picked something random off the menu so everyone could
order. What I got was incredibly good, actually. The place is pretty cool. We went around the corner to Rainbow and had a few
drinks. I'm convinced that I've met Lisa's coworker before. That, or she reminds me of one of my sisters friends from high
school or something.
I didn't get much of anything done on Sunday. Didn't clean my apartment or do any laundry. had to load all of the band gear
into the practice space and then take it right out again as Cory has to work on Tuesday. But that's actually cool, as I'll now
be able to hit the gym this week. I'm not going tonight because....uh.....new Halo 2 maps....are coming out. NERD.

Just christ. Last night was a blast. Dark Room was a great venue. Tobias and Brock did such a great job promoting the show
and I'm so happy that they asked us to play. We had a great time. The guitars were really loud on stage. Apparently the mix was
pretty awesome in the crowd. Nate, the sound guy, was very nice. It was also his first night running sound at that venue. Ulrich
Schnauss made it in time to see our entire set and he loved it. I talked with him most of the night and ended up giving him
a ride back to his hotel. We're supposed to go see Sin City tonight, but I gotta find my phone and call him. I'm going to go
to The Empty Bottle tonight to see him and also M83. And then I get the sweet embrace of much needed SLEEP.
I think I got about 2 and 1/2 hours of sleep last night. I woke up still drunk and with eyes so bloodshot I thought I was
infected with Rage. I had to sit through a 3 hour long seminar
on sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace. You know, even though that sucked, at least I didn't have to do any
real work all morning while I feel this bad. I got a BBQ chicken calzone from Under 55 and that's made me feel a bit better.
Maybe I should pamper myself some more and buy myself a Twix bar from the vending machine.
Oh, this is funny. I got home completely exhausted last night. Carried my amps, guitars and giant box of t-shirts up four
flights to my apartment. I was too dizzy when I closed my eyes so I decided to play a video game. I was actually falling
asleep while playing Doom3. It was so funny. I would open my eyes and discover that I'd been running at a wall face for who knows
how long. I didn't bother saving my game because I had no idea where the hell I was. Well, I mean, I knew I was sitting on my
couch in the living room. I meant I didn't know where I was in the game. I wasn't THAT drunk, damnit. I still managed to
remember to take my contacts out, thank god.
I hope t-mobile gets this situation resolved with my text messaging. It's one of the things that makes this long distance
relationship a little easier. Love you, Yukako.

Did I do anything on Friday night? Oh, I went to the gym and then ordered food from Leona's that ended up making me feel a
bit ill, so I camped out most of the night. It had been a long week. We had people from the New York office here the last
two days. Upper management people. Which explains why their computers were still locked this morning
because they still don't
understand how to log out of a computer.
I took my scooter over to Lincoln Square, which might be a great place for Yuka and I to live. It's cute, there are lots of
shops and the Davis is there. The Davis is a cheap-ass theater where the seats lean forward and there's
enough gum on the floor
to stop a charging elephant. But, the movies are only $5 for matinee's, which is why I was there. After enjoying a sandwich
while sitting on my vespa in the sun, John S showed up and we saw the remake of The
Amityville Horror. FUCKING WEAK. I wasn't
scared at any point in this movie. I can't find the article, but I recall CNN or some other new agency running an article
about the man who lived through these events.....and he was never once consulted for this current film. And that's pretty
damn obvious once George knocks down the wall in the basement. I kept thinking to myself how much this reminded me of Poltergeist
II. Go see it if you want, but don't expect anything amazing. This is just another Hollywood raping of a good horror movie.
I rode down to Wicker Park and put up some flyers for our show on Thursday. For some reason, my vespa dies twice on the
way home. It would suddenly lose power. I could kick start it just fine, but it wouldn't last more than a few blocks. I've got
an appointment this Saturday, so I'll have scooterworks take a look at it.
Sunday was pretty laid back. Went to the gym. Played Knights of the Old Republic. I'm finally getting into the plot and also
the game mechanics are making more sense to me. I just wonder if I'm going to have the time to play another RPG. I kind of
swore myself away from them a while ago, but.....this is Star Wars we're talking about. I'm also frustrated with God of War
to the point where I'm throwing my controller. It's that bit after going the first round with Ares where you have to protect
your wife and daughter from.....yourself. Super annoying.
I met up with John and Cory at The California Clipper for drinks last night. I got there right as the guy was opening the
bar at 8:00. His name was David. I sat at the bar and he filled me on the story of the ownership change that
happened 2 years
ago. I'm just glad that the current owner didn't change the look of the bar at all. That place is rad. It's good place to go
to have a quiet talk if you need to.

Note: Cliff Bars, while certainly the best tasting energy bar out there, do little to curb hunger or give you energy
during a workout. I stopped running last night because I felt like my legs were jelly and I was STARVING, even though
I had eaten one about 40 minutes earlier. I came home and devoured a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Not the best
post-workout meal, but I didn't give a shit.
Speaking of shit, or rather, not taking any more shit, I performed PS2 surgery last night. I got out my screw drivers
and exposed all the guts and secret places that my PS2 had to offer. "God damnit, when I'm done with you, you'll be able
to fucking read XBOX discs". Ok, that was a stretch, but at least I was motivated. My desire to play God of War was taking
over and I really didn't want to shell out $150 for a new PS2. I got the top of the CD-Rom drive off and made it read the
cleaning CD, either by gently using my finger nails to keep the disc in place or by sheer force of will. Rule. It worked. I
patched it up faster than an army field medic and within 5 minutes, I was Kratos, slaughtering freaky demons of ancient
Greece and any poor civilian bastard that got in the way of my crazy, flaming chain sword thingies. I even played it this
morning to the point where I had to skip showering so I could make it to work on time.
Another note: don't leave little cans of compressed air around with the straw thing still attached. Stella will chew that
shit up beyond recognition faster than you can say "I just took a shit outside of my litter box".
I'm in a weird mood today.

Feeling: it's scooter season!
Crazy weekend. Sort of. After being a good boy and going to the gym after work on Friday, I decided that I didn't want to
wait one more day to get my Vespa out of the basement. I had planned on having someone help me, because this thing is heavy as
hell and we have to get it up 4 steep steps and out a door. Well, me being the idiot that I am, I went downstairs and fashioned
a ramp out of miscellaneous junk in the basement. There's plenty around. After 5 tries, I finally got enough momentum to get it
over the top step and I grunted and kicked and screamed and eventually lifted the back end up and pushed the thing through
the door. My hands were covered in oil, grease and dirt and my back felt like someone had taken a baseball bat to it. However,
my battle was over and I was victorious. I washed my hands and then went out and got her started after many many kicks. I
think she needs a new spark plug. Drover her around the block a few times and then had my back stretched out on the couch for
the rest of the night and popped a few Advil.
I drove her to H&R Block the next morning to get this state tax problem figured out. After being in there for an hour with
a man who doesn't have a lot of computer experience, we got the problem fixed. I'm not getting a $60 refund this year, for
some reason. But at least I don't owe the state $1,420 now! I decided to celebrate and go out for a nice Japanese lunch. Kyoto
was closed, so I went over to Clark street and tried Kabuki, which was also recommended to me. I was the only person in there,
but the place was really nice and the udon I got kicked ass.
I went up to Scooterworks after lunch. Apparently they are doing things by appointment now, so they couldn't do my tune-up.
They did, however, put air in my tires which were reeeeeeally low. I was a bit embarrassed. Oh well. Now I know what the pressure
should be, finally. The scooter handles so much better now. I flew down Western Ave on the way home. Awesome.
After getting home, I remembered that I needed to get cat food. So, I got
back on the scooter and went to Pet Smart. I bought 4 trays of canned cat food. The trays were in pairs, so I was carrying 2 sets, really. Anyway, I strapped these to the rear
rack with the bungee chords, but I was just not thinking clearly and didn't do it the right way. Flying down Logan Blvd in 4th gear, I
hit a bump and immediately sensed that something on the rack fell off. I hear a car honk behind me, and turn around to see that
they stopped in front of one set of boxes and the cans were all over the damn street. Luckily they weren't following too closely.
I turned around and parked the scooter quickly and ran into the street to get the cans.
Now, something that I forgot about was the fact that when my tires are properly inflated, the feet on the kickstand don't both
touch the ground. This makes my scooter a little unstable when it's parked. Everything was just going too fast and I didn't stop
to think about this. I'm picking up the cans when I hear a sound that I don't ever want to hear..... my scooter fell over.
I can't count the amount of times I shouted the word "fuck" during this entire experience. Luckily, it fell on it's right side,
against the curb, so it didn't fall over and bust the rear view mirror or anything. I threw all of the cans over the scooter and
into the grass. I picked up my scooter, which had shut off, and tried to start it. Lots of grinding sounds. More "fuck's" out of me.
The engine side cowl had taken a beating in the fall, so I pulled out my vice grips and started bending it back out. The good
thing was, this cowl was already pretty banged up, not to mention rusty. I finally decided to get out of traffic, so I pushed
it to the nearest sidewalk. After deciding that I did a good enough job "fixing" the
cowl, I pulled it off to look at the engine. Kick started it, but heard a high
pitched "ping-ping-ping" sound. Shit. I bent the flywheel cover. Not badly, though.
I could see on the flywheel where it was hitting. One quick bend with the vice grips and it sounded fine again. I
properly
strapped the cat food down, only losing three cans to the cars. Everything was fine in the end and nobody got hurt, but I just
felt like a complete jackass for having these two things happen. First I don't strap my shit down and then I let my scooter take
a dive onto the curb. Learning experience, I guess.
Anyway, I got home all pissed off at myself and decided to stay in, drink a few beers and finish Doom3. I'm pretty happy
with the game. The segments in Hell are pretty amazing and the cinematic where they show you the final boss is almost
comical. That guy is HUGE, man.
Sunday was pretty cool. The weather was great again. I went to the gym first thing, then came back and did 4 massive loads
of laundry. I should have taken advantage of the great weather and gone for a ride, but I was too sleepy between laundry
loads. Griff also came by to drop off my Vox AC-30 that he borrowed again. I'm a bit pissed. I have to replace my PS2. It's
finally not able to read ANYTHING I put in it. DVD's, games, CD's, nothing. Shit, even the fucking lens cleaner I bought
doesn't work in it. I bought that thing at the launch, back in 2000 and I've used it A LOT, so I'm not surprised that
it has finally decided to die on me. But I wanted to play God of War!!!! Alas. I'm going to have to shell out $150 for the
new PS2 model. Might do that on Wednesday after I get my hair cut.

Feeling: like I want to leave work and get my Vespa out of the basement
Yesterday was pretty hectic. The piece of shit generic cell phone charger I bought 2 months ago died on me. So while Lisa
calls me up and asks me to get tickets for The Decemberists, the "low battery" alarm keeps going off in my ear. I made it up
to Metro to find that the show was sold out. Eh. I wasn't that excited to see them anyways. Got home to find my internet
connection being completely terrible, so I was having a hard time looking up Japanese restaurants for dinner. We ended up going
to Kyoto, which is over on Lincoln. Very nice place, but in an odd building. I felt a little silly when we arrived because I'd
called for an 8:00 reservation, but there were no other customers in the place, even for the bulk of our time there. But the
food was excellent. THIS is the kind of traditional Japanese restaurant I've been looking for in Chicago. It's perfect scooter
distance, so I have a feeling I will be eating there a lot. We were going to meet up with John for drinks but after all the food
and a large bottle of sake, we were too sleepy, so we both went home.
Bought three more months worth of propecia yesterday. :: groan :: I think it's working, though.
I finally found out what went wrong with my state tax forms. I've made an appointment with H&R Block tomorrow to have them
check it over and to help me file the amendment to get the money I owe turned into a refund. Should only be about $60,
but that's certainly better than having to pay $1,400!
I absolutely have to get my scooter out. I'm gonna hit the gym after work and then I'm going to have to recruit somebody
to help me pull it out of the basement.
The sakura oil candle that Yuka got me for my birthday is awesome. I had it lit the other night for only about 20 minutes
and when I came home from work the next day, the apartment still smelled great. Thanks, honey.
Now for some commentary. Philidelphia is going wireless. I almost laughed when I heard about this a few months ago, but it seems to
be coming true. I have no clue how they're going to police this. You could seriously have people flying around in planes,
mooching the bandwidth because they hacked into it. Plus, how many jobs is this going to eliminate by wiping the private
ISP's off the map? The whole thing seems like a great idea, in some sort of futuristic way, but I'm
skeptical.
People, the pope was a bigot, a wealthy power monger who oppressed women's rights as well as countless others. Get on
with your lives.
This scares the crap out
of me. After reading "The Hot Zone", I know exactly what Marburg does to your body. It has something like a 90% fatality
rating. There's no cure. Your body turns to liquid from the inside out. It's nasty as hell.
blah blah blah. Have a nice weekend!

We mixed Blowin' Cool last night. I almost wish we'd written this song because I think our version kicks lots of ass. It was
just me and John over at David's last night. I'm always impressed with David's work ethic and his efficiency. The guy is a
champ. I'm happy that Marnie made it into the mix, even if she's not playing her French Horn. Hahahaah. You'll have to hear it
to know what I'm talking about.
I was a bit bummed that Cory didn't make it to the studio because I was going to have him pick up his bass at my place
and enlist him to help me drag my Vespa out of the basement. The weather yesterday was prime. I passed two Vespas on my
way to David's. grrrrr. Griff also got his wires crossed and I ended up taking my AC-30 over to him instead of him picking
it up, so he couldn't help me either. Bastards, all of you!
On my way to Griff's and the studio I stopped by EB and got God of War for the PS2 and the collectors edition of Doom3 for the
Xbox. Doom3 is so gorgeous, it's mind blowing. Easily the best looking game I've seen since Riddick. Cory called me about it
while I was on my way to the studio and he said that I HAD to play it in a dark room. Well, he's right. The game is incredibly
dark. Not just the tone, but the flash light they give you is a blessing. HOWEVER, the fact that you can't hold even a pistol
and the flashlight at the same time is just...well....stupid. YES, it does give you an extra sense of fear or whatever. You
find some freaky creature in a dark corner and then you're running backwards while whipping out your shotgun. I think that's
what they were shooting for (pun), and it works. But after playing Halo 2 where you can finally use both hands (wow, I
miss throwing grenades already), it's a little weird. The weapons so far are completely boring. This is why Unreal
Tournament kicked the cramp out of Quake 3 Arena. The weapons were so much cooler in UT. But anyway, the graphics are
great and they've done an OUTSTANDING job with the surround sound. One of my complaints with the Halo games is that the
surround just sucks. You'll hear a ship approaching, but until you actually see it, you'll have no idea where it's coming
from. In Doom3, you KNOW to turn around to your left when you hear something. Bravo.
The most important thing that happened yesterday was...... the arrival of my birthday presents from Yuka. She was really
worried that it was hung up in customs at O'Hare and she sort of let the cat out of the bag yesterday morning. hehehe I assured
her that the USPS tracking website is always inaccurate and never up-to-date, as all of us web-savy US citizens are aware.
Sure enough, about an hour after she went to bed, it arrived on my desk. ^_^ I waited until I got home to open it. We shifted
times by an hour due to stupid daylight savings and now we can catch each other on webcams as soon as I get home from work,
which is before she leaves for work. I opened the box, once again admiring her talent for wrapping presents. The first
gift was a a cool black and gray glasses case. Then, a t-shirt of her favorite band. Then, a supercar CD and a cute button.
THEN a candle holder that warms oil that smells like sakura!!!!! (that's cherry blossoms to you people who don't speak
Japanese). I'm a very happy boy. The sakura oil smells amazing. She sent me this because I cant be there when they bloom
this year. Hopefully next year, right honey?

The show at Double Door on Saturday night was great. We had a huge crowd and played really well. I ended up with Karen and
Ben, going to Nicks with Helen Stellar. I think I got home at 5 AM. Technically that was 4 AM but stupid daylight savings
is over.
I woke up around noon and took it easy. Not having enough milk for cereal is so depressing. Especially when you're eating
something as fiberous as Frosted Mini Wheats. Especially when you're already dehydrated from losing count of how many
whiskey and cokes you had the night before. But I digress. I watched some Eddie Izzard DVD's and restrung some guitars,
including my acoustic. I LOVE that guitar. Took a nap with Stella and then started playing Star Wars: Republic Commando.
GREAT game. I ended up playing it for 6 straight hours without even realizing it. I'm glad I didn't buy it, however. I'm
already on the 3rd mission location and that's the last one. So, it's a wee bit short. There's also practically no cut scenes,
so you're constantly on the move. It's a little weird, but it certainly sucks you in.

I went to a sneak preview for Sin City last night. HOLY FUCKING SHIT this is the best movie I've seen in a long time. I was
bouncing up and down in my chair. Visually, it's drop dead gorgeous. The characters are amazing. The stories are great. So
much happens and it's a long film and I enjoyed every second of it. It's so amazingly violent but you end up CHEERING for
the violence. Seeing Mickey Rourke's character "Marv" driving a car with the driver side door ripped off and dragging a guy
FACE DOWN down the street in order to get him to talk makes you beg for more. I'm completely unfamiliar with the comic series,
but I've gotta admit that I want to buy them immediately, if for no other reason but to thank Frank Miller for creating this
thing. I was a little confused about some of the characters, namely Josh Harnett's role and the fucking WEIRD character that
Elijah Wood played.
This movie is just fucking awesome. Every girl is gorgeous. And how can you not love a film that features a fucking ARMY OF
WHORES, gunning down mafia members with devilish grins on their faces?
What else.... I'm going over to a friends house for a Tekken 5 tournament. Sweet. A coworker and friend of mine is getting
married in a couple weeks and a girl here in the office decided to have the bachelor/bachelorette party at our show
at Double Door tomorrow night. I think half of the office is going. That's fucking sweet.
Oh, Chris and his buddies all brought their PSP's with them. I gotta say, that's a reeeeeally cool system. I played Wipeout
while I was inline. The display is great. Even though I don't really like portable systems, I may have to pick one of those up.
