Despite the fact that I'm hopelessly addicted to Metroid Prime 2, I did get some cleaning done last night. I ended up playing it until close to 2:00 last night, however. I'm guessing that's why I'm so tired today. Not much else going on today. I can't wait to get back to Tokyo.

The weather going down to Bloomington was reeeeeeally bad. In Chicago, it was this rainy snow type stuff with some super strong wind. I was worried about the road trip so I left work at 2. After being on I-65 for about 20 minutes, the landscape was full-on winter. Horizontal snow, iced up windshield wipers and ice all over the road. We were all driving around 35-40 MPH. It was THAT bad. By the time I got to Bloomington, the temp was 15 degrees warmer and it was raining and gross. However, Deb and Phil welcomed me with the gift of freshly made quesadillas and beer. Awesome.

Thanksgiving was really nice. Smaller this year than it has ever been, but still fun. Grandma didn't even attempt to remember my name. That's a little sad. Her memory is really really bad now. But she seemed to enjoy dinner. I ate way too much, of course. We watched "Force 10 From Navarone" after dinner and dad and I drank Maker's on the rocks.

I took my car in to get a checkup and it has about 18 billion things wrong with it. I'm going to leave it down there at x-mas and then pick it up a few weeks later. I'll be using my parents pickup truck for a while. :: groan :: I ran some errands an picked up Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. This game flat out RULES. It's beautiful, huge, harder than the first and it's just all around awesome. We all went to see Kinsey on Friday night. It was my parents, Phil, Deb and Janet. So, two aunts and one uncle. Kinsey was excellent. This movie has a bit of a personal connection with me and my family. It's neat having a film based in my hometown, even if it wasn't filmed there. I participated in a 3-part study at the Kinsey Institute in '99 or 2000. Kinsey's wife was my mom's girl scout leader and one of the women who is a partner at my dad's OBGYN office is Kinsey's granddaughter. Pretty cool. The movie is very forward, which it should be. Liam Neeson does a very good job. The whole cast does a good job, really. Oliver Platt as Herman B. Wells was really good.

I got back into Chicago around 3:00. I picked up Ben and took him to dinner at Lula Cafe. We had a VERY good bottle of wine and dinner was also good. We both had carrot cake for dessert and it kicked ass. We came back to my place and Yuka got to see us being goofy on the webcam. He's going to take care of Stella while I'm gone. Gotta remember to stock the fridge for him.

*sigh* 3 more days and I will be back in Yuka's arms.

I got some quality time with Halo 2 on Xbox live last night. At first I was getting my ass kicked. I switched from the "green thumb" control scheme back to "normal". Green thumb is great for melee attacks, but I was so nervous that I was dropping my second weapon to smack the air. That sucked. Eventually I got my act together and started kicking lots of ass. Checking my stats on bungie.net has got to be one of the coolest things ever. They are recording an insane amount of data! You can actually SEE icons of all of your kills and what weapon you used on a map for EVERY SINGLE GAME. That's impressive.

Had a really nice conversation with Yuka this morning. It's great discovering over and over again that we share the same feelings and viewpoints about the world. ^_^

My weekend in Greensboro was nice and relaxing. It started a bit chaotic. My flight on Thursday night was delayed to Cincinnati, which would have totally screwed my connection to Greensboro. Delta does not put you up in a hotel if the delay is due to weather, so I decided to get a 6 AM flight the next morning and not chance getting stuck in Cinci overnight. I bumped into Chris from my Japanese class while I was getting food. He was flying down to Atlanta for the weekend. He has this talking Japanese watch that I ABSOLUTELY MOST OWN.

I got up at 3 AM to get on a train to O'Hare. Nice that my girlfriend has a 15 hour time difference from me, so at least I can text somebody and stay awake. Cinci is a weird airport. You have to take a shuttle bus to the different terminals. They're like little islands. My flight to Greensboro was in the smallest plane I've ever been in. Only 13 rows, 4 seats per row. My feet froze. The turbulence wasn't that bad, really. Greensboro is very small. It seems like an isolated suburb or something. I didn't get to see much besides Jenny and Jeremy's house, a movie theater and a few stores. Their house is huge. I need to be a doctor, damnit.

We rented an Xbox and a PS2. I got Rusty fully addicted to Katamari Damacy. We all watched movies, made cookies and had an absolutely huge Thanksgiving dinner. The grocery cart was massive. If it was our grocery cart vs. Godzilla, it would have been a very close match. I made french toast for everyone on Sunday and then I went with Jenny and mom to see The Incredibles. This movie fucking rocks. I laughed the entire time. The audience was filled with kids that I think were just too young to get much of the humor or the visual references. The 1960's style houses and the Bond-esque evil tropical island with monorails and volcano were perfect.

I ended up having to run to catch my plane in Cinci. Cinci is not usually on time, apparently. I read a lot and got back home around 9:30, I think. Stella was happy to see me and I just chilled out the rest of the night.

In other news, the AIRIEL BOX SET IS FINALLY OUT. Go buy one.

My schedule until 2005 is totally nuts, people. This weekend I'm in Greensboro for early Thanksgiving. Next weekend I'm in Bloomington for actual Thanksgiving. December 1-12 I'm back in Japan. December 18th airiel plays in Pittsburg. Then the next weekend is X-Mas. Then the weekend after that is New Years. So if you're wondering where I am, there ya go. I haven't been to Panic at Smartbar or Another Planet at Neo in ages, so let's go when I'm actually in the city, ok?

I'm having lunch with DJ today. I'm sure we'll talk about nothing but Halo 2. I still haven't gone online with that yet. Hopefully when I get back from Greensboro I'll do that. I've never been to North Carolina before. Jenny and Jeremy keep telling me that it's a small town. All I know is that there better be a video store where I can rent an Xbox and a PS2 or there will be hell to pay. Otherwise I'll just be gorging on pumpkin pie all weekend and putting on 5 pounds isn't exactly what I want to do before I go back to Japan.

Time for some movie reviews. First the bad and then the good.

Suicide Club: Man, I was really looking forward to this one and was totally disappointed. It was the description of the opening scene that immediately grabbed my attention. 54 smiling Japanese school girls hold hands and simultaneously jump in front of a train at Shibuya Station, instantly killing themselves and showering the train platform with blood. Sounds awesome, right? Well, the music that's playing is so cheesy and the blood spray is so obviously from a hose (a Japanese staple, I know), that it just kills the mood. It's still rather dark and creepy, but it just became too silly. That's the main problem with this film. The plot of the movie is that there is a rash of teen suicides in Japan, somehow related to a j-pop band of 12 year old's called Dessart, and also a web site that somehow is predicting when people are about to kill themselves. Seems like a stable, solid plot for a murder mystery, but what happens is you get a bunch of paper thin characters, plot holes and poooooorley executed story telling. The ending is a bit of a slap in the face and I was reminded too much of Neo Genesis Evangelion. They had to remake the ending for that twice because it was so terrible. They never got it right. Well, this is the same kind of approach. An existential mind job of what it means to exist and to "connect with yourself". Whatever the hell that means. See it for the gore, but only if you rent it. Don't buy this one.

Ok, now for the good one. I FINALLY watched the unrated cut of Ichi the Killer. This movie kicked ass all over the place. I was grossed out, I laughed, I cheered. Seals and I were wondering just how gross this movie would be, just based off of the trailer. Well, luckily for this one, the trailer is perfect. It's exactly what the movie is like. The gore does have a certain sense of humor to it. I mean, seeing a guy slip and fall in a room absolutely COVERED in blood and human entrails is always funny to me. It has a lot of sexual content without showing any major nudity. The unrated cut has a judicious use of semen that you won't find in the normal cut. Just check out the opening title sequence. hahahahah. According to the trivia page on IMDB, that's REAL semen. \m/

Moving on..... the characters in this are pretty incredible. Kakihara, the guy on the cover, is undoubtedly the best of the bunch. When he decides to take over the Anjo gang, I was like "you rock!". It's not every day that I'm rooting for a sadomasochist. Alien Sun (great name) plays a woman named Karen, who speaks English, Chinese and Japanese and seems to rotate them every sentence. I'm not sure why. This chick has "honey, you were totally asking for it" written all over her. Anyway, the plot of this one is rather cool. An ex cop named Jiji is trying to start a war between the yakuza gangs in the Shinjuku area of Tokyo. To do this, he hypnotizes a man named Ichi who is sent to kill any target that Jiji defines. Ichi is a man absolutely on the verge of a total breakdown. He's sexually and mentally wacko. Ichi kills the boss of the Anjo gang and steals 3 million yen. Kakihara, the 1st lieutenant of the Anjo gang, is convinced that his beloved boss is still alive, and goes to the nearest rival gang to find out just what the hell happened. What follows is 2 hours of blood and violence. It's really damn cool. Kakihara pulls of all of his lines with either a dead pan expression or this grin that just makes you love him to death. It's messed up, I know. The end of the film may leave you a little confused, but I'm sure you'll be walking down the street wondering just what character you feel sorry for the most. Usually my vote lies with Ichi. But anyway. This movie kicks lots of ass and makes good on the blood and guts.

Well, today has been weird. I sort of took the morning off to go get my car's emissions tested. This never ever goes right. And yeah, I've only done this twice, but that still qualifies as "never ever" from a statistical point of view. Last time it was something wrong with my gas cap. This time it was the fact that my muffler hose is nearly gone. I didn't even know it was messed up. I think 30% of is left. So, I had to leave and drop my car off at Pep Boys. My car needs it's 85,000 inspection anyway, so I may have them do that as well since they already have my car there. I had to walk all the way from Logan and Western down Damen to the Damen L stop. The Damen busses were only running north and not south. It was actually a nice walk despite all of the honking cars. Now I have that "I've just taken a long walk in chilly weather and I'm dying for some cookies and a nap" feeling. I will compensate by making myself some miso soup.

brb

Ok. Much better. So last night I finally got to those pork buns I bought from Mitsuwa. They weren't BBQ after all. They were essentially the same stuffing for pot stickers. Which of course was still totally awesome. I finally beat Halo 2 on the Heroic setting and then fell asleep on the couch reading Hellboy. My life is exciting. :p

The weekend was nice. Dave, Arlo, DJ and Keith came over on Friday night for some games, pizza and beer. Dave and I played Katamari Damacy before the others showed up and he loved it. I knew he would. I had everybody play Burnout 3, which they also loved. Then we spent some time in San Andreas. DJ copied my save file because I have all 100 tags. Lazy Bastard. ;)

We spent the rest of the night with Halo 2. I hadn't played multiplayer Halo in months, so I was a little rusty ....... for about 10 seconds. I kicked some serious ass against these guys. I realized that not only does the scorpion tank fire a lot faster, but the marine sniper rifle also reloads a LOT faster. I finally did my first hijacking. DJ was surprised because he kept trying to run me over with a warthog and I kept jumping over him. hahahaha. Then I finally jacked him. Pretty fun.

I did nothing on Saturday but play Halo 2. I finally finished it on Normal and then started playing it on Heroic. It's a lot harder, of course. I've replayed certain sections so many times. I think the worst was when I was trying to kill the Prophet of Regret. I think I had to replay that about 35 times. Before I knew it, it was dark out and then it was 9:30. Craziness.

I had breakfast with Ben on Sunday. Blueberry pancakes. Holy crap. I haven't eaten something like that in a loooong time. He's going to look after Stella while I'm gone next month. I picked up a "Hellboy" comic, since I've never read them and only seen the movie. I really like the artwork a lot. I'm looking forward to the others. Practice went well. It felt good to be writing again.

Ok, here are my impressions of Halo 2, having finally played it for more than 30 minutes. I think the in-game cut scenes look like shit. They really do. Each time they change to a different shot, graphics pop up all over the place. However, some of the in-game graphics look really damn good. I was sitting under a Pelican as it was about to drop off a Warthog for me and I just sort of sat there thinking "wow. they did a good job with that". So, the graphics are hit or miss.

The audio is pretty good. I encountered David Cross, Laura Preppon and Michelle Rodriguez as marines last night, pretty amused with the fact that their faces are modeled after the actual actors. David Cross said "hey dude" to me. I'm not sure if I like the fact that suddenly we're hearing all of the covenant speak in English. I miss the "wort wort wort" of the Elite's. Yes, I realize that the story for this one is more centered around the covenant this time and the English is a device to help tell the story, but it just seems a little..... cheap.

The warthogs seem to flip over really easy this time. I miss them being indestructible. The driving AI is PURE SHIT. I got in the shotgun seat last night and sat in utter confusion as the driver proceeded to drive straight into tipped over trucks and flat into a wall several times. It's really weird. The gause cannon is pretty sweet and makes short work of the wraiths. However, count your lucky stars if your driver manages to avoid their cannon fire. The ghosts are well done this time, although they seem to feel a little heavy to me. The boost is pretty nice. Their explosion sequence is a little funny. I had a mission where I crossed a bridge while driving a scorpion and the ghosts were doing their "death dances" left and right.

The game seems really chaotic. You're thrown into the thick of it from the very beginning and trying to decide if you should dual wield or not usually causes you to get your ass handed to you quite a bit. I don't know if I like dual wielding yet. Yeah, I love the firepower, but I miss throwing grenades and bitch-slapping people with whatever weapon I'm using. That's the reason I use the "green thumb" control setting. I think the fact that you can grab the beam weapon off of a destroyed sentinel is pretty cool. The laser sword is possibly my new favorite flood-killer.

Time will tell how I feel about it. I have yet to get on Xbox Live with it. I'm having some work friends over tomorrow night and we'll test the multiplayer. I've heard that some of the maps are enormous. I think we'll start squad tactics practice for "Clan Merryl Streep" next week. That's right. I'm in a Halo 2 clan called Meryl Streep. I think it's hilarious. Imagine the embarrassment when your team loses to "team meryl streep". Hahahahah.

I made it out to Mitsuwa last night. Picked up my JR pass exchange form and also got some groceries. I got a lot of frozen or refrigerated items and I was worried about the traffic getting back home, so I actually turned on the air conditioning. Yeah, I'm retarded, but at least I have a freezer stocked with BBQ pork buns, fish cakes, coffee and chocolate flavored mochi and curry noodles. Kickass.

The show went well last night. The crowd was a little light, but that's a Tuesday night for ya. The venue was REALLY beautiful. No, that picture is not while we were playing. :P I would really like to play more shows there. The PA system is actually pretty good for a room that sounds like a gymnasium. The monitors were great. Cory and I could hear ourselves really well. We rocked out pretty hard. Had a good ending on Kiss Me Sadly. We had some fans come up to us right after the show to buy CD's. That was nice. Didn't really talk to the other bands all that much, though. It was good to see some friends in the crowd that I hadn't seen in a while. Not to knock her or anything, but I was AMAZED to see Hannah in the audience, considering that Halo 2 came out yesterday. :P

My stomach is finally back to normal. I was in pain all day yesterday. It really sucked. Eating actually helped, which was weird. Believe it or not, I think the beer I had helped. Maybe it was just the carbonation, but I was feeling normal by the time we got on stage. I was starving when I got home, too. My insides are weird.

Didn't do much on Friday. Ordered a pizza and played GTA all night. I systematically went through with the guide and got all 100 tags and all the oysters in Los Santos. It's so nice having weapons there at the ready at your house. The game is enormous. I have no idea how long it's going to take me to get through it all. With Halo 2 coming out tomorrow and Metroid Prime: Echoes coming out the following Tuesday, I'm going to have no social life at all.

Saturday night I went with Lisa to an art gallery/fashion show thing. It was fun, really. There was no cigarette smoke, which gave it an automatic A+ in my book. We then went over to Griff's for another one of his parties. It was a pretty good time. Hanging out with Cory and everyone at parties is always a good time. I think I only saw Griff for about 2 minutes, though. There were some extremely bad drivers out that night. This cab flew buy me on Elston, passing me on the RIGHT because there was a bike lane. And the car had a passenger in it!

I spent most of Sunday being hung over and playing more GTA. After a nap I went up to Mitsuwa and bought myself some sake and a nice sake set for 2. Also ordered my JR rail pass. I made the mistake of telling them I could pick it up on Wednesday, but since we're not practicing that day, I'll have to come up anyway. But at least I can get groceries this time. Well, Bush won again. I'm not going to say many things about this election. Anybody who knows me understands what I think of George Bush and that I don't trust him to spell or pronounce my last name correctly and I wish that pretzel he choked on had killed him. However, the way I feel about Kerry is different. I feel that John Kerry simply didn't appear to suck as much as Bush. I think John Edwards should run in 2008. I can't wait to see who tries to take up the spot for the Republicans.

Now that I have my feelings about the candidates out of the way, what strikes me as sad about this election is that it was so close. Not because Kerry lost, but because whoever the winner was going to be, nearly HALF of my country voted against him. Does that strike you as scary? Wouldn't it be nice to have an election where the vast majority of the country was behind him/her and you really felt good about it? I just hope Bush can clean up our image in the next 4 years. Last year when I was in England, I told people I was Canadian.

The good news lately is that I FINALLY got the email working on my cell phone. It's amazing what you miss when you finally give the manual the attention it deserves, even if you are sitting on the toilet at the time. So, now that I have my mailbox configured and all that stuff done, I can send pictures from my phone. Cool.

What else.......oh, I have finally put Katamari Damacy away and have given in to GTA: San Andreas. I've caught the GTA bug all over again. I still thinking having to go to the gym is stupid, but the game really is a ton of fun.

Feeling: I got a big ass headache

Happy All Saints Day, y'all. It's a cold, windy, wet Monday and I've got a wicked headache. Not sure why. Weekend was fun. I went to see Saw with John and his friend Alicia. I thought the movie was actually really good, despite the reviews it was getting. The part that sucked the most didn't come from the movie, but the ridiculous low brow audience. They laughed at nearly everything and it killed the aesthetic. Yeah, there's some bad acting in there, but I think the mood is great and there are a couple good scares.

Katamri Damacy has taken over my freaking life. I haven't even been playing GTA:: San Andreas thanks to this stupid, ball rolling game that's got a wickedly fun soundtrack and way too many things to unlock for me to ignore it. I can't flip flop between games. I have to play one all the way through before I move on to the next one. So, GTA will be next, followed by Halo 2 (how can I ignore that?) and then Otogi 2. I have my priorities in order, I think. :P.

Saturday was super windy. I took my Vespa when I went out to get my hair cut and I was getting pushed all over the place by the wind. I did a bit of a fashion show for Yuka. Hehehehehe. I bought my Merc suit a year ago and I think I've only worn it 5 times. I love that thing. I picked up Lisa and we went to her coworkers party in Lincoln Park, which shall hereby be referred to as "the area with the worst parking in all of Chicago". We drove around for nearly 45 minutes and finally got lucky. We didn't stay long at this one. There were some funny costumes. Most notably, a huge black guy who was Chef from South Park who kept getting "wow, Chef Boyardee!" comments all night. Poor guy.

We arrived at Jeff and Kim's place around midnight. This was the best Halloween party they ever had. The place was packed. Mary and Phil were spinning in the living room. They had a woman tending bar in the kitchen. The dinning room had all the food and was on a table mixed with all sort of great Halloween-y things. Phil made the Jacob's Ladder by hand. That's rather cool. People liked the masks Lisa and I wore. Although, I sort of shot myself in the foot with mine. Ever seen Roxanne? Same situation. My nose was too long to drink anything like a normal person, so I had to use a freaking straw. Well, this lasted for one drink. I shifted the mask up to the top of my head so I could get my drunk on. We had a great time. Oh, here are all the pictures. Jeff dressed up like Dr. Frankenstein and Kim was a Living Dead Doll. This costume had special meaning for me, which I'm not sure Kim was aware of. When I had my appendix taken out in January, Jeff and Kim came to the hospital to visit me. Kim brought me a miniature Living Dead Doll and this was the same one she dressed as. Pretty cool. Seals wore his Superman shirt again. I spent the bulk of the night with him. Lisa couldn't get enough of him. He's hilarious.

I was rather hung over on Sunday. I just got a diet coke from the kitchen here and Seals said he was the same way. I think it was just the odd mix of alcohol I had that night. I stayed on the couch most of the day watching movies with Halloween themes; The Nightmare Before Christmas, Blood: The Last Vampire and House of 1,000 Corpses. Band practice was quite fun last night too. Cory gave me the Pepsi Challenge with Cure songs and I knew 9/10 guitar parts for the songs he threw at me. It was a lot of fun.
